Igor Bitman

Biography

Life and work

Igor Bitman was born in Moscow in 1953, where he studied at a fine art school. He left the Soviet Union in 1980. After living in Italy and Canada, he settled permanently in France in 1987.

He exhibits regularly in galleries in France, Italy and the Netherlands and has presented numerous solo exhibitions. His work has received many awards, including three distinguished prizes from the Fine Arts Academy.

“Since the beginning of my career as a painter, photography has been part of my creative process. It has often served as a form of sketching, playing an important role in the development of my paintings. Three or four years ago, encouraged by renowned photographers, I allowed my photographic work to become independent from painting. Today, I see photography as a separate artistic practice—a parallel path that allows me to pursue my work through different means.”
